It is during the semi-annual fashion weeks held in New York, London, Milan and Paris that the upcoming fashion trends are determined. Now the question is, what will consumers be putting on their wish lists for the fall to come? FashionUnited lists the 5 biggest fashion trends to emerge during Paris Fashion Week.

#1 Knee high boots The knee high boot is back. The past seasons were all about the ankle boot, but this season saw the boot length reaching to just below to far above the knee. Louis Vuitton saw models presenting in sixties inspired knee boots with a little heel, while A.F Vandevorst and Balenciaga selected thigh high, high-heeled riding style boots.

#2 Collars The collar has been played an important role during the past few seasons and this trend does not appear to be going anywhere, any time soon. It's is not just about wearing a Peter Pan collar under a sweater or a dress, but pairing a strong statement collar in a contrasting collar or print with a jacket or blazer. Carven, the fashion house that re-introduced the love for collars seasons ago, showed plain jackets with striking leopard print collars. Miu Miu took the trend to the next level and featured double layered collars (as well as hoods) in distinctive colors.

#3 Ankle length In New York the coats were over-sized, in Paris they were long. Ankle length even, as was seen from Haider Ackermann, Hermès and Isabel Marant. The most striking of them all was the dress-jacket from Lanvin, which featured double buttons, flared out and had a row of large ruffles along the hem. Karl Lagerfeld was highly praised for showing the classic tweed jacket from Chanel in a floor length version.

#4 The Belt For his debut collection, Nicolas Ghesquiére showcased his models waists during the Louis Vuitton catwalk show with brown and black belts. Elsewhere in Paris, the waist was over-emphasized with the aid of belts. Just as prominent and unmissable was the belt by Chloé, and Maison Martin Margiela featured subtle and narrow belts.

#5 Quilted Clothing made from neoprene material were in last year, this autumn is to be the season of quilted fabrics. Miu Miu featured short quilted jackets and quilted A-line dresses, while Christian Wijnants used the materials to create padded short and long trousers. Kenzo went one step further and showed a complete quilted suit.
