Budget fashion retailer Primark has teamed up with internet retailer Asos to sell its clothes online, as the fast fashion brand trials out an online presence. The Associated British Foods-owned retailer, which is one of the last big fashion retailers not

to sell clothing online, has announced that it is to sell a limited number of items via Asos for a trial period, in order to gain an "insight into online retailing".

The
initial collection on Asos consists of 20 womenswear products, ranging from a 6 pound T-shirt, to a 22 pound studded parka, and features other summer staples including dresses, dungarees and denim shorts.

In a statement Asos described Primark as “relevant to its twenty-something target market” and added that the retailer would be part of its “roundup of great British high street brands”, which includes New Look, Oasis, Warehouse, and River Island.

A spokesperson for Asos said: “With their unique take on the latest must-haves and newest trends, Primark fans can get their hands on their award-winning affordable fashion, from skinny jeans and denim to skater dresses and printed T-shirts."

Primark haven’t confirmed how long the trial would last for, or even whether a larger collection will be introduced on the site, however, John Bason, the finance director of Primark’s parent company Associated British Foods, told the Telegraph that the trial is a “fact finding mission” and that it would be “premature” to say that Primark will launch its own e-commerce offering.

Even with this tentative step into the online market, Primark said that it’s committed to rolling our new stores in the UK and across mainline Europe. Earlier this week the budget chain announced that it is to launch into France with its debut store opening in the southern French town of Marseille in December, which will be followed up by a second store in Dijon.

Primark currently already has stores in Spain, Germany, Belgium, Austria and the Netherlands, as well as through the UK and Ireland.
