Billed as including some of the "most important and iconic" dresses worn by Princess Diana, the lot also featured a number of Catherine Walker dresses, including a black beaded evening gown worn by Diana in a Vanity Fair photoshoot and a crushed velvet burgundy dress that she wore to the Australian premiere of Back To The Future in 1985, which both fetched 108,000 pounds each.
Other lots included a cocktail dress designed by Zandra Rhodes worn in 1987 and a black evening gown by Bruce Oldfield.
The auction attracted bidders from across the world, including Australia, America and the UK, and the auction house confirmed that two of the gowns were purchased by an “important” museum in the UK.
Known as the ‘People’s Princess’, Diana originally sold the 10 pieces at a charity auction in New York, shortly before she was killed in a car crash in Paris in 1997.
