Pringle of Scotland have today announced Alistair Carr as their new design director. Following the much applauded Claire Waight Keller, who stepped down earlier this month for personal reasons, Carr , who previously held the position as head

of design under Nicolas Ghesquiere at Balenciaga, is thought to be a good fit for the heritage gone contemporary luxury brand.

"We
are thrilled to have Alistair on board," Jean Fang, Pringle's chief executive, told the Telegraph." His passion for both cutting-edge and contemporary luxury design is the perfect alliance for Pringle of Scotland, and we look forward to continuing our success as an international luxury brand with an emphasis in knitwear."

Waight Keller was responsible for transforming the old school label into something contemporary with fashion direction. She also launched a diffusion line, Pringle 1815(named after the year the label was founded) and in 2007 an accessories range.

When Kenneth Fang bought the firm in 2000 it was for an ailing £6million as losses up to then reached £4.5million. In 2005 when Fang handed control over to his children, Jean and Douglas, and appointed Waight Keller, sales had reached about £25million.

Carr, who has also held positions at Marni, Cacharel and Chloe, and shown his own label at London Fashion Week will present his first Pringle collection in September for S/S 12.
