Spac eRebel: connecting stores with designers
Created by Danish fashion company MyTrnd, one of the largest global showrooms, the new online international marketplace aims to help designers in six Europe's top fashion cities find the perfect retail unit for their designs, or locate available rental space within exisiting stores.
Launched last month, the site has already over 1,500 companies signed up renting out shelves, window spaces and rails in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Copenhagen, London, Milan and Stockholm.
SpaceRebel provides the rental of retail space for both shorter and longer periods of time, providing flexibility for both parties involved. The platform offers mimiumal financial risk to phyiscal store owners looking to rent out a portion of their retail space by allowing them to offer new brands for a low price to test the market without having to invest in new inventory.
The online marketplace also helps designers get closer to their customers by allowing them to see and feel their products in person. So far both store owners and designers seem positive about the concept behind the website.
“SpaceRebel.com gives us store owners the opportunity to discover new and upcoming design stars who are committed and full of potential,” notes Thomas Rottbøll Andersen, owner of a fashion store in Copenhagen.
Weikop explains that the business model of SpaceRebel works by acting as a mediator between between designers and stores, in return for introducing the two, SpaceRebel takes 5 percent of the agreed rental amount.
SpaceRebel.com also provides comprehensive insurance coverage to ensure both parties involved are covered. “We've chosen to include insurance in the price, because it gives designers an extra sense of security when they have to send goods to new stores and new markets,” adds Weikop.
There are currently 59 shop spaces available in London on SpaceRebel, including locations in Soho and Shoreditch.
