The Fashion Education Facebook Index

What’s the most popular fashion school on Facebook? According to the newly launched Fashion Education Facebook Index, The Art Institute leads the list; with 45 education institutions located throughout North America, with over

80.000 Facebook 'likes'.

IED Madrid, an educational system with campuses located in Italy, Spain and Latin America follows with over 60.000 'likes'.

This index measures the virtual popularity and social status of Fashion Schools and Institutes who are (originally) centered on Fashion Education or who offer Fashion Majors.

The American FIDM, Savannah College of Art and Design and the UK based University of Salford are all in the top 5 with over 25.000 'likes'.

The fact that FIDM, with around 7.500 currently enrolled students, is third on the list proves that the amount of students is not per definition the cause of a high Facebook status, leaving behind the number 4: Savannah College of Art and Design with more than 10.000 enrolled students.  

Furthermore, some schools have created Facebook pages specifically for their fashion students whereas others are just presented by the parent university. Is it a matter of (strategic) choice targeting your audience as one or as a niche?

The Fashion Education Facebook Index will be carefully maintained and updated. The status of schools will be watched closely. Schools can be added and social media activities or campaigns undertaken will be mentioned in future articles.
