Triumph ready to expand to US-American market
The company was founded in 1886 by corsetier Johann Gottfried Spiesshofer and merchant Michael Braun in Heubach, southern Germany, with just six employees. Today, the company is headquartered in Bad Zurzach, Switzerland and has become one of the world’s largest underwear manufacturers with 35,000 employees worldwide and an annual turnover of 2 billion Swiss francs (2011; 1.6 billion euro).Triumph started expanding into other countries under the name ‘Triumph International’ in 1953 and entered the UK and Ireland already in 1964. The brands Triumph, Sloggi, Valisère and Hom are sold in more than 120 countries worldwide. The company currently operates over 2,100 stores, of which more than 800 are own stores and 450 are franchises. After focusing on Europe – Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg in particular – Triumph is now ready to bring its line of lingerie and shape wear to US consumers but has not yet revealed any details regarding initial investment, store openings and other arrangements.
