Victoria Beckham to host charity sale on The Outnet

Fashion designer Victoria Beckham is partnering with The Outnet to sell more than 600 items of her clothing in aid of mothers2mothers, a charity that trains, employs and empowers mothers living with HIV in sub-Saharan Africa. The private sale, which will be live from August 20 to 25,

will feature pieces from Beckham's days with the Spice Girls, fashion shows, parties and red carpet appearances with husband David Beckham, including hats, shoes, bags and jewellery, designer ready-to-wear, costume pieces, coats, skiwear and evening dresses, all of which have been valued by Christies.

There will also be a selection of 10 of Beckham’s most iconic pieces that will be put up for sale in a “Going, Going, Gone” reverse auction, where the starting price reduces by a fixed amount every five minutes. Pieces include the white Dolce & Gabbana dress that Beckham wore to the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards and the fluorescent yellow Roberto Cavalli gown worn for her pre-World Cup party in 2006.

Commenting on the clothes being included, Beckham said: “I laughed a lot when we were going through my wardrobe as the pieces hold so many happy memories for me, David and the children. A lot of the clothes have been specially designed for me by the most talented designers and I’ve loved wearing them, however I now feel it’s someone else’s turn to enjoy them.”

On partnering with The Outnet, Beckham added: “We approached The Outnet as they have an incredible global reputation and are the perfect partner for us to build awareness and raise as much money as possible for mothers2mothers.”

The Outnet president, Stephanie Phair commented: “We are thrilled to be working with Victoria Beckham and her team on this very exciting charity event. From the start, The Outnet has defined itself by its strong relationships and collaborations with designers in luxury fashion and we are confident we can draw an enormous amount of interest for these iconic items and raise awareness for mothers2mother.”

Beckham chose to donate proceeds to mothers2mothers after visiting South Africa in February and meeting some of the mothers affected by HIV. For every 10 pounds raised by the sale it could help provide accommodation and transport for one of mothers2mothers’ community mentor mothers during their initial training course, 100 pounds could provide a mobile phone to that community mentor mother, and for every 1,000 pounds raised the organisation could employ one mentor mother for one year.

The funds that are raised will help mothers2mothers’ Mentor Mothers reach even more HIV-positive mothers with critical health education and support, to stay healthy and protect their babies from HIV infection.
