Westfield Broadway, which is currently under construction in Bradford, has signed up New Look and JD Sports to take flagship stores in the shopping centre. Fashion retailer New Look is taking a 10,500 square foot unit, while JD Sports will trade from a 9,200 square foot space, with

both stores featuring double-height frontages.

Sue Jarvis, head of group portfolio at New Look, said: “We are very pleased to be opening a New Look store in this exciting new retail development which will create an excellent shopping opportunity for the residents of Bradford.”

Warren Thompson, group acquisitions manager at JD Sports, added: “We look forward to playing a part in The Broadway’s retail offer, which will showcase the best of the UK high street to Bradford. Our new and larger store format will create a fantastic new shopping experience for local customers.”

The addition of New Look and JD Sports means that the centre is now 50 percent let with Debenhams, Marks & Spencer, River Island, Topshop, Topman and Boots already committed to the complex.

Keith Mabbett, Westfield’s director of leasing, said: “We’re excited to bring New Look and JD Sports to The Broadway and it is further endorsement of Bradford as a key strategic location for leading UK and international brands.

“We are seeing increasing confidence in Bradford from UK retailers and the city has been recognised as one of the top ten new development opportunities in the UK.”

The Broadway development is part of a wider urban regeneration plan being led by Bradford Council and it is hoped that the shopping centre will make the city a shopping destination for the region, increase retail spend and drive more visitors to the area.

The shopping centre, which is costing 275 million pounds and will total 570,000 square foot of space, has been hit by a number of delays but it is schedule to open next year. It will feature more than 70 shops, restaurants and cafes and is expected to create 2,500 retail jobs.
