London-based artist Daniel Silver has collaborated with Swedish brand Acne Studios on a capsule collection. The new line was launched last week at the retailer’s Dover Street flagship store alongside an exhibition of Silver’s work. Celebrities who attended included Daisy Lowe, Alexa Chung and fashion blogger Bip Ling.
“What I am fascinated with Daniel, is the similarity of how we work, we both like to explore what is contemporary. It’s not a modernist thing but more of a neo-classical style with a re-interpretation of classical forms in a contemporary manner,” says Jonny Johansson, Acne Studios. “The collaboration stemmed from a shoot we did in Daniel’s studio in London, I loved his usage of texture and colour – Daniel has a great sensibility for art. So for this capsule collection we used a lot of Daniel’s colours and art works. Fabrics are slightly raw and tribal in style, Daniel has a strong relationship with Africa and so we embraced this in the collection, there is painted leather, a lot of print and a lot of naive texture.”
The collaboration marks the artists first with a fashion house and brings together his sculptural work and African influences. The line features layered clashing prints, painted leather and raw fabrics, on tops, skirts, jackets, trousers and accessories.
The Daniel Silver Collection will be sold exclusively at Acne’s Dover Street flagship and online at acnestudios.com
