Menswear retailer Topman has unveiled its latest collaborative collection with emerging East London brand, Agi & Sam designed by duo Agape Mdumulla and Sam Cotton.

The exclusive 20-piece collection is inspired by last year’s Olympic games and the effect it had on their East London neighbourhood, as well as their love of football, which led to the capsule line being based on a fictional football club called ‘The Owls’.

Combining the duo’s trademark tailoring and all-over prints, the capsule collection is based around the idea of what their footballer muse, a ‘young handsome George Best’ would wear, including owl-inspired printed suits featuring eggshell, feathers and the birds of prey themselves as well as bold block colour retro-inspired sportswear.

The duo have also designed two full football kits for the pair’s fictional club, which Cotton explains were inspired by football kits from the early nineties where “they all had these amazing prints”.

Topman’s creative director, Gordon Richardson, said: “We’ve been watching these two talented young designers grow and mature over the past few seasons under our sponsorship initiative Man and feel their aesthetic is very much in the Topman world with colourful clashing prints and a young silhouette that sits comfortably alongside our own ranges.

“With this collection the boys have demonstrated everything that has made everyone sit up and take notice and whilst sticking to their very specific personal brief, they have been careful in their consideration of the Topman customers.”

Agi & Sam have taken part in three Topman sponsored Man show and next month will once again showcase as part of London Collections: Men. The Agi & Sam ‘The Owls’ collection hits stores June 4 with prices starting from 15 pounds.
