Luxury lingerie designer Chantal Thomass is set to launch a capsule collection of feminine sportswear for the upcoming French Open, which is set to run from May 25 to June 8.
"I stopped doing ready-to-wear about 20 years ago. I have missed doing it," commented Thomass to WWD, taking her inspiration for the line from tennis outfits from the 1920s and previous French champion Suzanna Lenglen.
The 11-piece collection is set to include playful polos, complete with bow details, fishnet visors and pleated tennis skirts. Prices will range from 45 euros for a T-shirt to 120 euros for a tennis tunic.
"We wanted to give a feminine touch to our brand," added Jérémy Botton, deputy chief executive of the Fédération Francaise de Tennis, which is why the federation selected the French designer to create the collection, as her brand is known for its sultry, yet feminine designs.
Depending on how well the sales go of the capsule collection, it may be roll out to other fashion retailers after the French Open, concluded Botton. Chantal Thomass lingerie collections are currently available at a number of stockists in the UK and Ireland.
The sportswear capsule collection is set to go on sale at the Roland Garros stadium from May 24 until the end of the Open.
