London hotel The Berkeley is back with its seasonal fashion high tea. This time the Prêt-à-Portea cake collection is inspired by the themes and colours of the autumn/winter 2011 collections.
The cakes and pastries resemble the latest catwalk designs, with Lanvin, Miu Miu and Burberry making their debut on The Berkeley’s tea stand, joined by Stella McCartney, Valentino, Bottega Veneta, Dolce & Gabbana, Jil Sander and Sonia Rykiel.
Like with magazine editors, stylist and celebrities, the chefs of The Berkeley sit front row to take in the key looks and trends and serve them as delicious treats. This year there is a Stella McCartney polka dot sponge cake, a gold starred Dolce & Gabbana chocolate éclair dress filled with hazelnut cream, a glittery winter spice Miu Miu high-heeled shoe biscuit and you can even take a bite out of a Burberry Prorsum black and white double-breasted chocolate trench coat.
Additionally, there is orange and ginger Valentino clutch cake closed with oversized chocolate bow; Jil Sander’s flower pattern dress has been made from pomegranate and grenadine mousse; and French designer Sonia Rykiel’s creation has been made into a striped chestnut cream and almond sponge cake dress complete with metallic sparkles.
Prêt-à-Portea is served daily from 1-6pm in the Caramel Room, priced from £37.50 per person and served on fine-bone china by Paul Smith for Thomas Goode.
