Ford Focus couture

British fashion designers, Judy Clark and Katherine Hawkins have collaborated with Ford to design an haute couture dress and necklace, comprised out of parts from the 2012 Ford Focus car. The designers were commissioned by Ford as part of its celebration of the 100th anniversary of Ford in Britain, and as part of the relaunch of the Ford Focus car.

Scottish designer Judy Clark, a nominee for Scottish designer of the year and who worked under the late Alexander McQueen, was tasked with creating a gown in just one week using components from a Ford Focus. Clark created an Edwardian-style gown from tweed, leather, lace, and spray paint and used silk chiffon the colour of diesel; as well as included car keys, radio and dashboard components, seat covers and two red taillights parts.

Clark also designed a matching biker-style jacket, complete with speedometer, created from the Ford Focus’s seat covers.

English jewellery designer Katherine Hawkins, was issued a similar challenge to only use the parts to create a necklace, unaware what Clark had produced. Hawkins crafted an ornate necklace from dials, buttons, springs, instrument panel switches and seat cover material. The centrepiece of the creation is a grouping of instrument panel switches.
