Harvey Nichols ad goes viral

Harvey Nichols is a strong contender for the best Christmas advert this year. Its hashtag #spentitonmyself is quickly clocking up visitors on social media sites since it went viral this week.

The 'Sorry I spent it on myself’ theme features shoppers buying ultra-cheap gifts for loved ones, such as toothpicks and paper clips, because they had spent the gift money on themselves.

The retailer has produced a budget range of products, designed by its ad agency Adam&EveDDB, under the "Sorry I Spent it on Myself" brand. Items include a water-resistant sink plug at 1.13 pounds, or a tooth brush at 1 pound.

"At this time of year it can be all too easy to get caught up in the spirit of giving," Julia Bowe, marketing director at Harvey Nichols told The Guardian. "We hope that our new 'Sorry, I Spent It On Myself' Gift Collection will provide our customers with low-cost gifting options for others that will allow them to spoil themselves that little bit more this Christmas."
