German fashion brand Hugo Boss is teaming up with the National Theatre in a year-long collaboration, which will see the fashion label becoming the playhouse’s first ever partner for contemporary clothing.

Over the next year, Hugo Boss will be providing costumes for selected productions, whether that means dressing the whole cast or just specific actors. The first Hugo Boss creations will appear in the National Theatre’s latest production, Damned by Despair, which opens tonight, alongside those designed by costume designer Moritz Junge.

Commenting on the collaboration, Bernd Hake, Managing Director, Hugo Boss UK said: “Hugo Boss is thrilled to be working with the National Theatre, such an incredible British institution of talent with an exciting history and high calibre of performers. We look forward to seeing how our relationship develops over the coming year."

Martin Prendegast, Deputy Director of Development, National Theatre added: “We are delighted to be working with Hugo Boss, the National Theatre’s first ever partner for contemporary clothing. We very much look forward to our collaboration and to incorporating Hugo Boss’s unique designs and tailoring into some of our productions.”

As well as supplying costumes, the German fashion house will also be able to use the venue for various one-off events, including the use of The Deck, which overlooks the Thames.
