Last night at a cocktail party, Livia Fifth and Lucy Siegle in collaboration with American Express celebrated sustainable fashion with the launch of the ‘Green Cut’ project.

The initiative brought together the British Fashion Council and the British Film Institute for the first time and paired together eight fashion designers with eight iconic British films to raise awareness of a sustainable approach to fashion design.

Designers Tom Ford, Stella McCartney, Jonathan Saunders, Antonio Berardi, Roksanda Ilincic, Stephen Jones, Alice Temperley and Marios Schwab were all challenged with designing a bespoke piece using a sustainable approach, while offering a contemporary take on classic films such as My Fair Lady, Evergreen, Accident, Its Love Again, Darling, Things to Come, Velvet Goldmine and The Red Shoes.

The final designs were unveiled at the launch and they will be on display at Somerset as part of The Exhibition at London Fashion Week, and the project culminates in a showcase of the collection exclusively in Harrods from October 22nd October to November 5.

Commenting on the project, Livia Firth said: “I hope everyone will be thrilled by this extraordinary exhibition, it brings together fashion and film, all underpinned by design that is truly sustainable. Our eight designers each inspired by an iconic British film demonstrate perfectly that it is possible to use sustainable, eco-friendly fabrics and ethical manufacturing techniques and achieve stunning results.”
