The London Design Festival starts in less than a fortnight and this year celebrates its tenth birthday.

The festival brings the worlds of fashion and furniture together, but more importantly the annual event promotes London as the design capital of the world, and as the gateway to the international creative community.

This year the London Design Festival will collaborate with Swarovski to set twenty influential designers and design figures a challenge on the theme of detail. Each member of the group will select an object from the V&A’s galleries and use Swarovski lenses to magnify highlights or curiosities within its design.

The London Design Medal has become one of British design's most coveted accolades, awarded each year by the London Design Festival to an individual who has made an immense contribution to design and London. The 2013 London Design Medal will be supported by luxury watch brand Panerai, additional category sponsors are Coutts, Veuve Clicquot and Swarovski.

With over 300 exhibitions and events, there is plenty to see and choose. In one of the exhibitions, Karl Lagerfeld has created a photographic installation for Cassina, the slick minimalist design company, in SW3. At Collate, the V&A will show how to put a magazine together. The exhibition runs from 14-22 September.
