Simone Rocha didn't mince with her colour palette for SS15. It was black, white, nude with a hint of floral for good measure. But the simplicity of her hues were in stark contrast to her dresses, which held a romantic sensibility of rounded diagonal cuts and hems, and like her father John Rocha, Simone knows her fabrics. Nude mesh, black and white clique - almost funereal in its look - and floral embroideries under a white sheath. It was mesmerising to see these pieces on the runway. A standout look is a red floral dress appliquéd all along the hem.
Fashion East at Topshop's Show Space took a dramatic turn when a worker from an adjacent building fell through the roof, a drop of around 50 foot, during Louise Alsop's show. The crowd gasped as a loud bang punctured the atmosphere, but strangely the show didn't stop and continued, much to the amazement of the attendees who furiously tweeted about the incident.
Meadham Kirchoff is the label to go to next season if you are in punk mode. There was sliced-up latex, oversize jackets in terry towelling, sheet white dresses with dangling red string. At first glance it is bizarre and unflattering, but then out comes a chiffon dress, a cool sweater and a bomber. Understated it is not word in the MK dictionary. Even their show invitation had scribble that said "Reject everything!" But there was joy amongst the rebelling messages, and probably a commercial one too, as the punky sweats will do well at retail.
