NYFW: Jason Wu SS13

Jason Wu for Spring 2013 took inspiration from photographer Helmut Newton. Whilst Newton's work often depicted androgyny and sexual themes, Wu took the cocktail dresses, corsets and lingerie-esque gowns often seen in his photographs, and transformed it into something elegant.

Newton's subjects may be playing a sado-masochistic role at times, but they were always dressed to the nines, as will be Wu's spring '13 customer.

Leather and lace were recurring fabrics in a collection that was mostly black, with hints of beige, fuscia and navy. They were accessorised with glitter, laced gloves and high patent stilettos with studded closures. Models wore slicked hair and red lips in a nod to Newton's girls.
