Royal Ascot has announced it will enforce a strict dress code for this season's sporting event. Ascot, which is one of the most popular and prestigious events in the British social calendar, enforces a dress code to matches its top tier credentials.

A fleet of style police, known as Dress Code Assistants, will be on hand to advise any attendees if they are in breech of the dress code. The code consists of no spaghetti straps for women, no mini-skirts or fascinators for the Royal Enclosure. The Assistants themselves are dressed by high street retailer Hobbs in silver shift dresses with matching jackets.

With an attendance of up to 300,000 people, the dress code is part of the experience, say organisers.

In 2012 Ascot introduced stricter dress code for certain parts of the course, and this year its style police will be able to help visitors with any last minute concerns over their attire, said the Daily Mail.

Charles Barnett, Chief Executive at Ascot Racecourse said: "We were delighted with the reception of the new dress code last year, which endorsed our decision to make such changes. Royal Ascot is an event where people like to dress up and they feel a bit let down when those around them don’t."
