In the modern age the worlds of music and fashion collide so often that only certain collaborations stand out from the crowd.

Yves Saint Laurent in 2002 stated: "I have played a role in the transformation of this generation. I have done it using clothes, which is surely less important than music, architecture and painting, but I have done it nonetheless."

Fast forward to 2013, and YSL's new creative director, Hedi Slimane, who has a well documented affiliation with music, has created the Saint Laurent Musique Project.

Slimane, who sources much inspiration from the music scene, mostly notably of edgy bands and up and coming rock stars, has created a Saint Laurent portrait gallery featuring specially invited guests who chose pieces from both the current collections and Saint Laurent archives to reflect their own identity and personality.

These stars, who happen to be some of the world's most recognisable musicians, where there photographed as part of the current Saint Lauren advertising campaign.

For example, Courtney Love pairs a tiara and ermine coat with her tattoos, Kim Gordon models the renowned Saint Laurent tuxedo, Marilyn Manson chose all black. The project does not stop there, as part of an all-round creative approach that continues right up to the Saint Laurent catwalks.

The design house has called upon Daft Punk and other bands to provide their original soundtracks while the models themselves from the latest Saint Laurent Homme show were as much rock and roll as the music.
