Rugby Ralph Lauren has been named a title sponsor for this month’s upcoming London Rugby Tweed Run, a 12-mile bike ride through the capital where cyclists dress in a signature tweed style.
The London Rugby Tweed Run will be held on November 26, and London participants will gather at the Rugby store in Covent Garden and take part in special activities occurring throughout the route, from the classic Tea Break to be held in the grounds of Royal Avenue, Chelsea, to an exclusive soiree at the end of the course. Additionally, prizes will be awarded in numerous categories including the usual awards for Best Vintage Bicycle, Most Dapper Chap and Most Dashing Dame.
The event attracts cyclists dressed in clothing from the 1930s/1940s, with suggest attire including: woollen plus fours, Harris Tweed jackets, flat caps, Fair Isle jumpers, alpaca coats, merino wool team jerseys, cycling skirts and perhaps a jaunty cape for the ladies, cravats or ties for gentlemen. Additionally, Rugby Ralph Lauren, has also launched its own ladies and gents tweed run limited edition collection, which features heritage tweed and corduroy pieces and accessories such as tweed ear muffs, flat cap and a bike saddle that capture the spirit of the event.
This year the run will be raising funds to benefit World Bicycle Relief, an organisation that, through their Bicycles for Educational Empowerment Program, is providing 50,000 bicycles to improve rural Zambian children's access to education.
Other sponsors of the event include bicycle manufacturers and outfitters Pashley Cycles and Brooks England, traditional barbershop chain Murdock, Johnnie Walker Blue Label and Jeeves and Jericho: The Jolly Good Tea Company.
