According to a new independent study published by CollectPlus, British shoppers will spend an average of 142 minutes each waiting at home for parcels and deliveries to arrive this Christmas, costing the UK economy 868 million pounds.

The research gathered by CollectPlus, a parcel delivery and returns company, shows that the average British person spends 31 hours and 48 minutes waiting in for deliveries over the course of the year, with 41 percent taking time off work to stay at home and wait for their parcel to arrive.

23 percent of people have been late or missed meetings with friends whilst waiting for a delivery and 9 percent have missed or been late for medical appointments or important family occasions. 75 percent of those questioned who stayed at home to wait for a delivery in the past stated that the delivery was late, and 61 percent claimed it never even arrived at all.

The frustration of waiting for deliveries has led to one in four people (26 percent) to be put off ordering an item online, while one in five did not complete an order because they were unable to chose a delivery time to their liking, according to the report.
