London-based artist and designer Zakee Shariff has joined forces with leading Fair Trade fashion pioneer People Tree, to design a new collection of easy-to-wear jersey pieces with unique bold prints.
The collection, which launches on December 12, consists of four individual prints in Shariff's signature using pop colours and paisley and bird motifs. These graphics are printed on three different easy-to-wear styles including a stretch mini-dress, a slouchy long sleeve box sweat, and a slashed sleeve tee.
All garments are hand screen-printed on 100% organic, Fairtrade certified cotton in India by Assisi Garments, one of People Tree's Fair Trade producers who pay up to 30% more than conventional garment manufacturers. The organic cotton is from Agrocel, a pioneering Fairtrade certified organic cotton producer in Gujarat, India.
Prices for the collection range from £30 to £45 and will be available to buy online from People Tree and from ASOS and selected John Lewis.
"I love working with People Tree as they are very conscious of their mission - very refreshing. As a person who cares about the world and portrays that in my work it's very important to me, especially now that I have a child," said Zakee Sharif.
Founded 10 years ago by Safia Minney, People Tree has previously collaborated with Emma Watson, Orla Kiely and Vivienne Westwood. Sharif has also worked with brands including Bugaboo, where she recently designed an all-over print for their Chameleon stroller/buggy, in celebration of the two year anniversary of the partnership between (RED) and Bugaboo, to raise money for The Global Fund that supports HIV/AIDS programs in Africa.
