Amazon is continuing its expansion in the UK with news that it is to open a new distribution centre in Bolton, which will create 1,200 new permanent jobs in the North West of England.
The online giant currently has 16 distribution centres in the UK and the Bolton location will be equipped with advanced Amazon Robotics technology, and the team will be picking, packing and shipping customer items such as books, toys and kitchenware, said the retailer.
No set date has been announced for the Bolton opening, just that it will be in 2018.
“Our ability to expand in the North West of England is the result of two things: incredible customers and an outstanding workforce,” said Stefano Perego, Amazon’s director of UK customer fulfilment. “We are thrilled to begin recruitment for 1,200 new permanent roles in Bolton with competitive wages and comprehensive benefits starting on day one.”
The Bolton centre joins two other fulfilment centres in the North West, Manchester, which opened in 2016, and the Warrington site that recently opened, as part of Amazon’s 6.4 billion pound investment in the country since 2010 in its UK-based research and development, head office and fulfilment and logistics infrastructure.
Jobs available at the Bolton fulfilment centre includes operations managers, engineers, HR and IT specialists.
