For the week ending April 1, 2017, total sales at John Lewis were 78.3 million pounds, down 6 percent. The company said figures are still distorted due to Easter bank holiday trade falling into the comparable week last year. Fashion sales were however up 3 percent, John Lewis said, owing to the launch of new private label AND/OR, combined with the warmer weather helping drive womenswear sales.

Womenswear sales were up by 5.3 percent, with women’s casual clothing seeing the biggest uplift. Home was down 3.7 percent, again influenced by the fall of Easter. However, home accessories and gifts were up 12.4 percent driven by sales of outdoor living, which saw growth of 52 percent.

EHT sales were down 15.6 percent, due to strong promotional activity in the comparable week last year. The company said, mobile phones and photography equipment enjoyed a strong week however, with sales up 7.6percent.

The company opened its largest international shop-in-shop to date in Dubai. The new 15,000 sq ft John Lewis space is located inside the refurbished Robinsons department store in the Al Futtaim Dubai Festival City Mall.
