British private equity investment group fund Apex Partners may soon sell one of its best-known portfolio brands, namely Karl Lagerfeld.
The Lagerfeld company consist of Karl, its online cosmopolitan collection, Karl Lagerfeld Paris, its premium womenswear line, and Lagerfeld, its menswear brand.
Apex was the sole owner of Karl Lagerfeld at one time, following a deal nine years ago, but sold a third of its stake in 2015.
In 2006, Apax bought the Tommy Hilfiger fashion business, which included the Karl Lagerfeld portfolio founded by German-born designer, who is also the creative force behind Chanel and Fendi.
Apax, however, sold most of the Tommy Hilfiger business four years later to US retail group Phillips-Van Heusen (PVH), which also owns Calvin Klein, for 3 billion dollars. The private equity firm kept the rights to the Tommy Hilfiger brand and its Chinese operations.
