Fashion can mean business and for Hiral Sanghavi, the inventor of BauBax travel jacket, it has definitely meant business of the best class. He needed to fundraise 20,000 dollars on Kickstarter to fund his BauBax travel jacket but instead, he smashed that target and raised an impressive 9 million dollars.
The crowdfunding campaign for the jacket with 15 built-in features was launched on July 7 and allowed Sanghavi 58 days to meet the goal, which he got...in just five hours.
The jacket quickly became the most-funded clothing campaign "not just on Kickstarter but in the history of crowdfunding," proudly highlights Sanghavi. In fact, the BauBax jacket drive has also become Kickstarter's fourth-most funded campaign ever after the two Pebble Smart Watches and the multi-purpose Coolest Cooler box.
Specifically, the campaign has generated more than 9,192,055 dollars pledged by 44,949 backers, as stated on Kickstarter.
"I knew we had a great idea, that we'd maybe get a million or two, but never 9 million dollars," said Sanghavi.
"She works on the West Coast and I'm studying for my MBA at the Kellogg School of Management [at Northwestern University in Illinois]," Sanghavi said, referring to his wife. "It's a long flight and I'd forget to take my neck pillow and buy a new one at the airport."
Reports indicate the jacket's tag price starts at 160 dollars (plus taxes/shipping) and comes in four various styles, including blazer, sweatshirt, windbreaker, as well as bomber.
Though it's specially designed to target air travellers, the company claims it can also be used for any kind of travels, as is designed with multiple hidden functions to make commuting more comfortable and hands-free. Those include a neck pillow that inflates in two seconds, an insulated cup-holder pocket and gloves concealed in each sleeve.
