Even with a 27 percent increase in annual profit, Bonmarché may still be on the list of struggling fashion retailers in the UK. The company is set to cut 140 store assistant jobs, according to Retail Week.

Retail Week’s report says the womenswear retailer could also be in the process of renegotiating contracts with the remaining store assistants. Revised contracts would include a mobility clause, requiring the staff to travel up to 25 miles to another store, in order to compensate for staff shortages.

Bonmarché Holdings Inc operates more than 300 stores in the UK, employing over 4,000 people. Founded in 1982, the company sells affordable womenswear and accessories.

FashionUnited has contacted Bonmarché for comment, but has yet to receive a response.
