British footwear retailer Clarks is preparing to terminate a total of 170 jobs over the next month as part of its business review and global restructuring plan.
The scheme, which is set to continue over the next month, has resulted in the termination of 50 jobs at the footwear retailer's head office, with an additional 120 roles expected to be cut across Clarks global operations, confirmed the company. The company stresses that employees affected by the redundancies will be offered a full package, be given the support they need as well as assistance in finding employment. In addition, a number of internal employees will also be asked to take on new responsibilities or roles within the company to support Clarks ongoing growth.
"Whilst Clarks remains a global leader in the footwear market, we have, in recent years, experienced a highly demanding commercial and economic environment, with increasing competition and intensified customer expectations," said a company spokesperson. "Clarks has begun restructuring the company to focus on its global distribution channels, combining its product and marketing functions and making best use of its talented product development teams in Street, Somerset and Boston, Massachusetts."
