The arrival of the cold weather in the UK combined with the last week of clearance saw fashion sales rise by 16.2 percent at John Lewis.

Clothing sales was one of the department store’s top performing categories in the week to January 16, as shoppers bought both seasonal and the new season's lines, the department store confirmed.

Overall sales at John Lewis grew 15,7 percent year-on-year to 85.9 million pounds, with sales at Johnlewis.com continuing to be strong with an uplift year-on-year of 30.8 percent and double-digit percentage growth across all of the assortment areas.

The department store chain added that its shops had a particularly strong week with Ashford, Poole, Peterborough, Stratford and Glasgow achieving some of the biggest percentage increases.

John Lewis director of selling, David Barford, said: “Our clearance has now officially ended and exciting new lines are starting to arrive in shops and online.”
