Ebay revenue reaches 3.20 billion dollars on circular fashion momentum

US-based e-commerce marketplace Ebay reported its financial results for the third quarter ended September 30, 2026, delivering a 14 percent revenue increase to 3.20 billion dollars. Revenue rose 13 percent on a foreign exchange (FX) neutral basis, supported by continued consumer migration towards pre-loved fashion and recommerce.

Gross merchandise volume (GMV) for the quarter rose 15 percent on an as-reported basis and 16 percent on an FX-neutral basis to 23.20 billion dollars. First-party advertising offerings on the platform generated 575 million dollars, representing a 16 percent year-over-year (YoY) increase.

Ebay chief executive officer Jamie Iannone stated that the performance reflected ongoing momentum across key consumer segments. “Our Focus Categories, C2C marketplace, and Recommerce leadership are driving strong, sustained growth, while innovations across eBay Live, Shipping, and our portfolio are making the platform more trusted, seamless, and compelling for buyers and sellers around the world,” Iannone said.

Net income on a GAAP basis from continuing operations stood at 501 million dollars, or 1.11 dollars per diluted share. Non-GAAP net income reached 685 million dollars, or 1.51 dollars per diluted share.

GAAP operating margin contracted to 19.2 percent from 20.3 percent in the prior-year period. Non-GAAP operating margin settled at 26.3 percent compared to 27 percent in the third quarter of 2025.

Ebay chief financial officer Peggy Alford emphasised that strategic discipline is supporting bottom-line performance. “By investing with discipline in our highest strategic priorities and focusing on the areas where we have a clear competitive advantage, we are positioning eBay for durable, profitable growth and long-term shareholder value,” Alford noted.

During the quarter, the group closed its acquisition of UK-based peer-to-peer fashion platform Depop from US-based marketplace operator Etsy, paying 1.40 billion dollars in cash on July 30, 2026. Depop enhanced its platform by deploying artificial intelligence listing tools and more affordable domestic delivery options in the US.

In luxury apparel and accessories, the platform broadened its Authenticity Guarantee service across Europe, allowing consumers in 23 European Union member states to purchase verified luxury fashion goods from sellers based in France, Germany and Italy. Watch authentication was introduced in Australia.

The marketplace also staged activations during London and New York Fashion Weeks through its ‘Endless Runway’ project, presenting archival and second-hand fashion via live commerce. According to the company's annual recommerce study, 47 percent of surveyed shoppers acquire second-hand items at least monthly, rising from 35 percent in 2025.

Outlook raised for full year 2026

The enterprise generated 875 million dollars in operating cash flow and 749 million dollars in free cash flow from continuing operations. Capital returns to shareholders totalled 827 million dollars, comprising 689 million dollars in common stock repurchases and 138 million dollars in quarterly cash dividends.

Cash, cash equivalents and non-equity investments stood at 3.30 billion dollars at the end of the period. An additional cash dividend of 0.31 dollars per share was declared for the fourth quarter, payable on December 18, 2026.

For the fourth quarter of 2026, net revenue is projected between 3.19 billion dollars and 3.24 billion dollars, representing FX-neutral YoY growth of 7 percent to 9 percent. Full-year revenue is forecast between 12.62 billion dollars and 12.67 billion dollars, reflecting annual expansion of 12 percent to 13 percent.
