Fast Retailing to open R&D Centre for GU in London

Japanese fashion conglomerate Fast Retailing is set to open a research and design centre for its fast-fashion brand GU in London, as is parent company aims to develop it into a global fast-fashion leader.

Known as the GU R&D London Centre, the centre is set to open sometime in mid-March, according to Fashionmag. Similar to its counter parts in Tokyo, Shanghai, New York, Los Angeles and Paris, the centre will focus on improving GU product development for overseas markets and focus on tying together key colour and fabrics tends for the brand as well as style concepts and key themes.

The centre in London will employ approximately ten members of staff, who are set to begin working on GU’s women’s wear SS17 collection. Uniqlo’s sister brand GU, was first founded in 2008. The cuter, fast-fashion label currently counts 335 stores in Japan, Shanghai and Taiwan as Fast-Retailing aims to expand the brand across the Greater China region and move into Southeast Asia.
