Austrian fibre producer Lenzing has partnered with the Textile and Fashion Federation Singapore (TaFF) and recently opened a Tencel Studio in a prominent location on popular shopping destination Orchard Road to offer Singapore’s designers a hub to present themselves and make the Tencel brand more accessible to consumers. The company also recently opened a “Lenzing Center of Excellence” (LCOE) in Purwakarta, West Java, in Indonesia.

“Lenzing is excited to work with TaFF on The Cocoon Space and its programs. Our cooperation with fashion designers is an important element in showcasing the sustainability promise of our flagship brand Tencel to consumers. It comprises an integral part of Lenzing’s commitment to green-up the fashion industry”, commented Stefan Doboczky, CEO of the Lenzing Group, in a press release last Monday. “Singapore is a strategic hub for Lenzing in Asia, and we are proud to contribute towards taking Singapore’s fashion scene to greater heights.”

The opening of the latest Tencel Studio in Singapore completes the company’s chain of innovation and application centers in Asia. Design Orchard contains a store on the first floor that will sell designer garments made with Lenzing fibres, as well as an event and co-working space on the second floor, The Cocoon Space, and the Tencel Studio on the third floor, complete with a Tencel Fabric Library, offering customers and partners support in the joint development of garments.

With the new Center of Excellence in Indonesia, the Lenzing Group aims to intensify its cooperation with its partners along the value chain, enhancing its efforts to jointly conduct research and development work on new yarns. Part of the LCOE is a laboratory and analytical facilities to conduct trials and analyses of various types of fibers and yarns in order to further improve product quality.

“The LCOE is already running at full speed and has aroused extensive interest on the part of customers and partners. It is an important step in the implementation of our corporate strategy sCore TEN”, said Robert van de Kerkhof, CCO of the Lenzing Group in a press release of 15th January 2019. “The proximity to important Asian customers and partners creates a new dimension in our service offering. We can react more quickly to current trends and handle a broad spectrum of application aspects on location in collaboration with our supply partners thanks to our complete range of fibers and unique fiber blends”, he explained.

“Following the opening of the Application and Innovation Center in Hong Kong, the Indonesian LCOE represents a further step towards strengthening Lenzing’s partnership with its customers. The LCOE bundles activities and innovation capabilities in the area of fiber to yarn. In contrast, the Hong Kong center mainly focuses on yarn to fashion. With this, we have brought full fiber to fashion innovation capabilities to Asia. I hope that this new center will truly become an example of excellence, both in conversion technology and our partnership with customers”, added Vineet Singhal, Senior Vice President Asia, Middle East and Africa.
