Shop Direct has opened a new, state-of-the-art training, conference and wellness facility at its headquarters in Liverpool, nicknamed The Cube, as it continues its pursuit to become a world class digital retailer.

The Cube, which includes a 250 capacity conference space, a juice bar and exercise area, is said to be the result of the ongoing refurbishment of former studio space with the UK’s online retailer’s head office and signals the company’s continued investment to create a digital workplace to drive future growth. The opening of the Cube is part of the e-tailer’s recent transformation strategy, which included a series of new appointments and shift in focus to online pureplayer.

“Our people, and the people we want to hire, expect to come to a collaborative digital workplace that’s full of purpose, passion and creativity. The Cube gives us just that,” commented Alex Baldock, CEO at Shop Direct. “I’m hugely proud of all the work that’s gone into the facility; it’s been shaped by our people, for our people – and is another step on our journey to world class.”

The Cube is said to have been designed using direct feedback from Shop Direct employees, who were keen to have a new space for thinking, learning and working together as well as a space to relax and keep fit. In addition to offering an exercise and wellness area, The Cube also features a relaxation zone, different break out area and a dedicated space for beauty treatments as well as space for numerous internal and external events.

“The highest performing businesses have the most engaged teams. With an average of 84 percent right across our business – a world class engagement score – the wellbeing of our colleagues and how engaged they are is something we take hugely seriously,” said Jacqui Humphries, group people director at Shop Direct. “This new facility will play a massive part in our wellbeing agenda, as well as helping us to introduce even more agile ways of working, creating better collaboration and quicker innovation for our customers.”
