The British fashion retailer has spent the past six years expanding a growing portfolio of sports, athleisure and lifestyle brands. From Cloggs to Blacks, JD Sports has expanded its kingdom well beyond trainers.

After conquering its home market and expanding in Europe via acquisition of key Dutch players in the sports and lifestyle apparel, JD Sports is now about to take Australia by storm.

JD Sport’s business has boomed on the back of latest trends, which gear around trainers and sporty clothes. In this sense, the retailer enjoyed a 45 percent jump in annual profits last year after a surge in demand for women’s sport clothing.

The chain, which now operates in 12 countries, has had quite a busy few years, surpassing rival Sports Direct and steadily expanding its footprint with forays in various adjacent segments.

This timeline explores JD Sports’ acquisition strategy since it lost interest in pursuing its then competitor JJB Sports.
