Exports of British fashion goods increased to 10.7 billion pounds in 2016, up 8 percent on exports of footwear, clothing, and textiles since 2015, and marks the highest on record, according to the Department for International Trade (DIT).

The top three countries outside of the European Union snapping up British fashion goods were America, Hong Kong, and Australia, which accounted for more than 1 billion worth of the exports in 2016.

This was helped by strong sales from home-grown luxury brands including Burberry, Mulberry and Temperley London said the DIT.

International Trade Minister Mark Garnier said: “From street style to haute couture, it’s no surprise that our prestigious fashion industry is in vogue with more than 10 billion pounds worth of goods heading overseas last year.

“Our best brands displayed their talents at London Fashion Week and as an international economic department, we are committed to supporting them make the most of their exporting potential. That’s why we’re connecting home-grown designers to international fashion buyers through bespoke fashion programmes and events.”

Part of that programme is to support the British Fashion Council on showcasing British designers during Paris Fashion Week with a dedicated pop-up showroom.
