UK retailers cheer the new Royal Baby as she bring extra 150 million per year

The new addition to the British Royal Family has been largely cherished already, with national retailers taking the lead at the time to congratulate the Dukes of Cambridge...and themselves. According to experts, the Dukes of Cambridge’s daughter will bring in around 150 million pounds to the UK economy per year.
Director of the UK's Centre for Retail Research, Joshua Bamfield, has estimated that she will lead to add 150 million pounds per annum to the UK's economy – that's more than one billion pounds by the time she is six, reports the ‘Telegraph’.
Of similar opinion is Tonya Williams Bradford, a marketing expert at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, quoted by the ‘Washington Post’: “The royals having a baby girl is most likely to result in a financial windfall for everyone— U.K. tourism and retailers alike.”
“Unlike with the birth of their beautiful baby boy, where the attention turns to whose next on the throne, this baby girl will provide many style opportunities, as her mother and the late Lady Diana did before her,” adds Bradford.
However, Bryan Roberts, director of retail insights at Kantar Retail, told CNBC that although there had been "isolated booms" for retailers following Prince George's birth, there might only be a "modest jump" for retailers this time round. "After the birth of George, we saw a lot of retailers try and clamber on the bandwagon in terms of merchandising, but I don't think it will be as big for retailers as last time," concluded Roberts.
In a similar fashion, The Centre for Retail Research in Nottingham estimated that George provided a 243 million-pound boost to the British economy in the nine weeks after his birth in 2013. But George was the royal couple’s first child, the heir to the throne. The immediate impact of a second child will be smaller, about 80 million pounds, the centre predicted. But the fact that it is a girl opens up a host of long-term opportunities.
New Royal baby girl’s arrival to inject over 80 million into the British economy
In an interview with the CNBC, Joshua Bamfield, director of the Centre for Retail Research, shared his thoughts about how “there will be an immediate boost of around 80 million pounds when the baby is born, with around 20 to 35 million pounds spent on souvenirs and such like." "If the weather is good…then we could expect more money to be spent on food and drink, as people have barbecues too," he added.
Likewise, Bamfield pointed out that being the baby a girl, the longer-term boost could be "quite significant,” "with the retail and fashion industries set to benefit in particular.
Baby boutiques, clothing stores and fashion designers received a gift that will keep on giving when the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to a girl, and all the marketing opportunities she provides, instead of another boring boy, retail experts say. From christening gown to wedding dress, and all the hairstyles in between, every trend the newest royal sets will be fodder for girls seeking to emulate a real life princess.
“People, particularly Americans, love it,” said Pauline MacLaran, co-author of the upcoming book, “Royal Fever: The British Monarchy in Consumer Culture.” ‘’It’s a fascination with a different kind of celebrity,” reports the CNBC.
“It’s more fun in general terms and cultural terms when you are dressing up a girl,” said Anusha Couttigane, a senior fashion consultant at Conlumino, a London-based retail research firm. “It’s just normal that girls attract more attention to fashion.”
