The national postal strike set to go through at Royal Mail next week has been cancelled after following a high court injunction.

A High Court judge ruled against the national strike after lawyers for the Communications Workers Union failed to follow the contractual dispute resolution, thus rendering the planned strike illegal. Although the national walkout was called off, which was set to go through October 19 to 21, the Royal Mail believes the dispute resolution process may go on through to Christmas.

The Communications Workers Union previously voted in favour of the strike earlier this month, following an ongoing dispute concerning pensions, pay, working hours and job security following the privatisation of the Royal Mail. General Secretary of the Communications Workers Union noted there had been a "breakdown in trust" between workers and the Royal Mail Management.

The last time Royal Mail workers went on strike was in 2009.
