Weak consumer sentiment: Douglas sees significant drop in operating profit

The perfume chain Douglas continued to feel the effects of customer price sensitivity in its third business quarter of 2025/26.

The quarter's business performance was significantly impacted by weak market dynamics in Germany, France and the Netherlands. It was also affected by continued strong price competition in the European beauty retail sector, the SDax listed company announced on Wednesday in Düsseldorf. Douglas confirmed the forecast, which was lowered again in mid-June.

Revenue for the three months to the end of June fell by 2.0 percent to approximately 988 million euros (1,140 million dollars). Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) fell significantly by 19.4 percent to 127.5 million euros. Industry experts had anticipated slightly higher figures for both metrics.

The bottom line showed a loss of 2.6 million euros for Douglas. This compares to a profit of 17.3 million euros recorded in the previous year. Analysts had anticipated a slight loss.
