German online retailer Zalando is set to create a 1 million square foot office campus in the Berlin district of Friedrichshain/Kreuzberg, to house around 5,000 employees.

The campus being designed by architectural firm Henn is located in the heart of Berlin and will be a seven-story building constructed by Münchner Grund Immobilien Bauträger GmbH. The official groundbreaking ceremony for the new headquarters will be in Q2 2016, with completion expected by 2018.

Zalando’s headquarters will house all aspects of the business from marketing and buying to photo production and e-commerce operations, catering for around 5,000 employees, with the aim of supporting the online retailers future growth.

“We are very happy about the growth of Zalando and the associated creation of new jobs. As one of the largest private employers in Berlin, our objective is to give our employees in Berlin a work environment that allows for creativity while also bringing our employees closer together,” said Rubin Ritter, a member of the Zalando Board.

Zalando serves 15 European markets including the UK, France, the Netherlands, Spain, and Germany. It’s online shops attract more than 131 million visits per month, and earlier this month the etailer reported that it was on track to for 3 billion euro growth in 2015.
