London - UK-based film distributor Dogwoof Pictures has acquired the worldwide rights to Reiner Holzemer's "Dries," a movie following the 25-year career of fashion designer Dries Van Noten.
The film, which includes guest appearances from Iris Apfel and Suzy Menkes, will be presented at AFM (American Film Markets and Conferences) next week at a “work in progress” screening and is expected to be released in cinemas next year, according to Variety.
Holzemer followed the designer over the course of a year, where he designed four new collections, as well as looking at the highs and lows of the designer’s 25-year career. The film features interviews with Van Noten as well as behind-the-scenes look in his atelier and home.
“It took me a very long time to convince Dries to share his passions, his creative and intimate world in front of a camera,” Holzemer told Variety. “I followed him for a whole year and I think I came as close to him and his world as it is possible. I hope the result is a very personal insight into his life and career.”
Holzemer has previously produced and directed fashion focused documentaries on Juergen Teller and Karl Lagerfeld.
Dogwoof Pictures will handle all rights for the film, except for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, which Prokino will handle.
Dries is expected to be released in 2017.
