London - American fashion designer Anna Sui will be the focus of a new exhibition at London’s Fashion and Textile Museum next year to mark her brand’s 25th anniversary.

Marking the first time an American designer has been the focus of a retrospective exhibition in the UK, The World of Anna Sui’ exhibition will feature more than 100 looks from the designer’s archive, presenting a roll call of archetypes from Surfers and School Girls to Hippies, Mods and Punks.

52-year-old Sui first staged her first catwalk show in 1991 and has become known for her signature rock-n-roll romanticism reinventing pop culture, and the exhibition will feature pieces from her spring/summer 1995 collection, which took its cue from the Forties, as well as a range of baby-doll dresses from her 1994 collection.

Other highlights include the Carnaby Street schoolgirl ensembles, donned by Linda Evangelista and Naomi Campbell, in Sui’s debut runway show, and the cheerleader and cowboy-inspired looks worn by Gigi and Bella Hadid at her spring/summer 2017 catwalk show.

"Since her first catwalk show in 1991, Sui has shaped not only the garments, textiles, accessories, beauty and interiors which comprise her design universe, but also the course of fashion history," said the museum of the designer.

The World of Anna Sui will open on May 26 and run until October 1, 2017.
