Designer Tom Ford is to follow up his directorial debut with a second Hollywood motion picture.

Following his Oscar-nominated 2009 debut film A Single Man, the former Gucci creative director designer revealed he is in the "early stages" of casting a new thriller, which he has personally adapted from a novel. The name of the book has not yet been revealed.

"A book is a book; a film is a film," Ford told WWD. "They are totally different things. Sometimes things are subtle in a book because there’s an inner monologue with the character, and turning it into a film, you don’t have that inner monologue."

This season, Ford will show his AW15 collection in Los Angeles instead of London. He explained he didn't want his show to clash with the Oscars, but that he may have other considerations in mind, such as casting.

Ford's debut film bears the obvious imprint of an obsessive stylist, someone obsessed with the little details that every prop is a work of art. One of the critiques Ford received at the time was that it was 'too beautiful'. Ford responded: "Certain directors are known for a certain kind of beauty, it becomes their signature. You have to be true to yourself, this is the world through my eyes. This character, he thinks it's his last day, it's practically a dream to him. It's surreal, it's hyperreal. Everything is intense, it's ultra-beautiful, he's leaving the planet."
