The Victoria & Albert museum has extended its forthcoming Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition for a further two weeks and released an additional 50,000 tickets to meet the huge public demand, taking its run to August 2.

The exhibit, which opens on March 14, has now sold 30,000 advanced tickets and is sold out for the first five weekends of the exhibition, breaking previous museum records for advanced sales. It is this huge demand that has forced the museum to extend the duration, as well as reveal that it plans to also open early and close late to facilitate as many visitors as possible.

"With just two months to go, we are seeing an unprecedented demand for Savage Beauty but we also wanted to reassure people that there are still tickets available," said Martin Roth, director of the V&A. "We are committed to providing access to as many as possible during its 20-week run and so pleased to now offer many more opportunities to see this magnificent show in London."

So far, tickets have been bought online from McQueen fans from every continent and 57 different countries with the highest number bought outside the UK coming from America, followed by Ireland and Germany.

Although pre-booking is recommended to avoid disappointment, the V&A has also stated that it will make 200 tickets available for purchase every day at the museum on a first-come-first-served basis.

Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty runs from March 14 - August 2.
