Japanese sportswear brand Asics has launched the Gel-Nimbus 29, the 29th generation of its cushioned running shoe. The new model introduces FF Luxe Plus, a lightweight foam that the brand says makes the shoe softer underfoot.
The Gel-Nimbus 29 will be available worldwide from December 1.
Redesigned sole and upper
Alongside the new foam, the shoe has a reshaped sole with a wave pattern on the underside, designed to compress more for a softer feel. Asics has also placed its PureGel technology under the heel to absorb shock on landing.
The upper is made from a new engineered mesh, with a knitted tongue, a ribbed collar and a pull tab. The Hybrid AsicsGrip outsole has more rubber coverage than the previous model. The shoe weighs around 279 grams for men and 238 grams for women.
The design concept, called 'Soaring Cloud', draws on the movement of clouds and the lines of classical Japanese painting. According to Asics, the shoe has a carbon footprint of 11.4 kilograms of CO2 equivalent per pair.
"The Gel-Nimbus series has always been synonymous with comfort. For its latest evolution, we focused on creating an even more plush and uplifting experience for runners," said Laura Bolgen, director of global product, performance running footwear, at Asics.
