Carhartt's iconic J140 Active Jac in duck material: work jacket with a rich history

Workwear brand Carhartt releases the Iconic J140 Active Jac, crafted from its durable Firm Duck material. While some workwear styles fade after a few seasons, the Active Jac has become a classic since its 1975 debut. It is a trusted staple for generations of tradespeople. Over 50 years later, its distinctive design remains instantly recognisable. Key features include sturdy duck fabric, ample room for movement, protection against wind and cold, and a construction built for intensive use.

The outer shell of the current Iconic J140 Active Jac is made from a heavy-duty, 407-gram cotton canvas. Its main seams are triple-stitched, and the jacket features Carhartt's Wind Fighter™ technology for wind protection.

Carhartt notes that for those working outdoors daily, the combination of warmth and freedom of movement is essential. The body and attached hood feature a quilted flannel lining, while the sleeves are lined with quilted nylon. Stretchable, elastane-reinforced rib-knit cuffs and a rib-knit waistband help to seal in warmth and keep out the cold.

Room to work

The Active Jac is designed with a Loose Fit, providing extra room across the chest, shoulders and upper body. This allows for freedom of movement and makes it easy to layer a hoodie, jumper or gilet underneath on colder days.

Ample storage has also been incorporated into the design. The front features two large, lower-set pockets. Inside, there are two additional pockets: one with a zip closure and another with a hook-and-loop fastening. A full-length zip runs down the front of the jacket.
