YKK develops Luxflat metal zipper for premium handbags

Japanese fastener manufacturer YKK has developed Luxflat, a new metal zipper designed for bags, which it plans to launch globally in November.

The zipper combines a redesigned, flatter element shape with a specially developed tape. According to YKK, this reduces sliding resistance by more than 60 percent compared with its standard metal zipper, a figure based on the company's internal testing.

YKK said the flat surface of the zipper chain also gives the product a sleeker appearance and a smoother feel. The company is positioning Luxflat for use in premium leather bags.
