British heritage brand Aquascutum has signed a licensing deal with Canadian firm The Jaytex Group to distribute its mainline, Aquascutum 1851 London collection, in American and Canada.

The Jaytex Group, which works with brands including Kenneth Cole and Ben Sherman, will oversee the brands wholesale and retail distribution, as well as plan the opening of standalone Aquascutum stores in Canada in the next two to three years.

“This partnership marks the start of an exciting market for the brand,” said chief operating officer Mark Taylor. “Demand for our product is already there and we’re already in talks with major luxury retailers in the US.”

The move is part of the British fashion label’s three-year strategy to build the brand’s presence both in the UK and across international markets, and the targeting of America is due to the fact it is the third biggest market for the label after the UK and Japan in terms of web traffic and contributes the highest revenue outside of the UK.
